Social Science
One of the most representatives on social sciences is the ISSP (Irish Social Sciences Platform). ISSP is an all-island platform for social science research and graduate training in the social, cultural and economic transformations shaping Ireland in the 21st century.
The Irish Social Sciences Platform brings together academics from 19 disciplines in 8 institutions across the island in a common programme of research on knowledge, innovation, society and space. ISSP focus on investigating three broad themes of national importance – creating balanced development, sustaining communities and building the knowledge economy. The 8 ISSP partner institutions are Dublin City University, IT Sligo, Mary Immaculate College, NUI Galway, NUI Maynooth, Queens University Belfast, University College Cork and University of Limerick.
ISSP researchers take an active role in social, economic and cultural policy debates as Ireland recovers slowly from the crash. It works closely with local communities, voluntary and semi-state agencies, and local and national government in tackling issues for building a prosperous future for the whole island of Ireland.
